Fact: Oil dissolves oil. Using an oil cleanser will dissolve the oil that has hardened with impurities and got stuck in your pores. By using the right oils for your skin, you will effectively cleanse your pores of dirt and bacteria and replace the dirty oil with beneficial oil that will protect and nourish your skin.

There is definitely an adjustment period where your skin has to acclimate (a week or so). You are introducing a new method that is unknown to your skin so be patient and stay consistent! If done properly, your skin will be more balanced and clear of blackheads and whiteheads. This is especially effective on oily congested skin types. There are pore-clogging oils, i.e. coconut oil, so choose wisely. Two of my favorites are Environ Pre Cleansing Oil and Living Libations Seabuckthorn!

The picture to the right is demonstrating the difference in using a regular cleanser vs an oil cleanser. On clean skin, no makeup, I washed one half of my face with my regular cleanser and the other half with my Oil cleanser and look at the difference! An Oil cleanser is just way more effective in deep cleaning the skin. I find once my clients properly cleanse their skin, they see a major shift. It’s skincare 101. It’s science. It’s step 1 of your routine and for certain skin conditions, the most important.

Here is my Cleansing Routine:

AM:

  1. I apply my oil cleanser on dry skin, gently massaging using circular motions especially where I tend to get clogged. I do this for about 1-2 minutes and then leave it on for another 2 minutes (the longer the better, but who has time for that. :-)).
  2. I then take a washcloth, which I change after each use (they are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria), make it nice and hot, wring it out, place it over my face and gently move it about my face in circular motions. Any residual oil left on the skin is good! It will hydrate, protect and nourish your skin.
  3. I then follow with the second step of the cleansing process; Toner. I spray my hydrating toner on a cotton round and wipe down my skin.
  4. Finish off with my eye cream, serum, moisturizer and SPF (this step always varies depending on what my skin needs that day).

PM: (similar to AM but I also add in my regular cleanser)

  1. I apply my oil cleanser on dry skin, gently massaging it, using circular motions especially where I tend to get clogged. I do this for about 1-2 minutes and then leave it on for another 2 minutes (the longer the better).
  2. I take a warm washcloth and gently move it about my face in circular motions.
  3. I then apply two pumps of my regular cleanser with water and work it all over my face in circular motions (don’t ever forget the neck!). I flip over to the other side of the washcloth and remove the cleanser.
  4. At this point I use either my active toner or my hydrating toner (I alternate on a daily basis between the two).
  5. I then roll my skin (I will talk about this in another post) and finish off with Rescue, Hydrating Oil Capsules, OR Revival Masque.

Cleansing matters! Take your time with this step.
